Hosting Applications in Nitix Virtual Server

Linux-based applications can be hosted on a Nitix-powered server using a technology called Nitix Virtual Server (NVS). NVS allows for an application to run in a separate environment from the core Nitix system. This allows you to customize the environment for the application without affecting the core Nitix system. Nitix can still be relied upon to provide security, backup, remote connectivity, internet uptime and more, however you can choose to run your own web server, database application, security application, CRM and more. There are several ways you can take advantage of the Nitix Virtual Server to host your applications.

  • NVS environment - You can download the NVS environment from http://www.nitix.com/. Simply visit the independant software vendor (ISV) section and nominate an application for NVS. You will soon receive a link where you can download the NVS environment.
  • Add-on Package - There are some applications that are available through Net Integration Technologies as an add-on package. This package only needs to be inserted into the CD drive, or copied to a specific team on the Nitix system, and the installation will be nearly automatic.

Installing an Add-on package

  1. Insert the CD that contains the add-on package into the CD drive of the server. If the server does not have a CD drive, insert it into your workstation's CD drive, and copy the directory ending with .pkg to the autoinstall team.
  2. To reach the autoinstall team, type the following into an explorer location bar (replacing YOUR_SERVER_IP with your Nitix server's IP address):
  3. \\YOUR_SERVER_IP\autoinstall

  4. Go to the Nitix WebConfig and reload the System Status page.
  5. Select SoftUpdate from the menu on the left side of the WebConfig screen.
  6. A list of installable packages will be displayed. If there is no list of installable packages, wait several minutes and refresh the screen again. A line similar to the following should appear in SoftUpdate: Team autoinstall/Installers: Add-on Package Name
  7. NVS Show Package.jpg

  8. Click Install on the far right side of the of the line in the Add-on section of the screen.
  9. If there is a license for this add-on package, it will be displayed. After reading the license, click Accept License at the bottom of the screen if you agree with the Terms of Use.
  10. After the installation process finishes, it may take another minute or two for the NVS status in WebConfig to show a green light. Wait until the light turns green before proceeding.
  11. The add-on package has been installed.
